3 Warning Signs Your Cadillac Needs a Tune-Up

Regular servicing helps keep your Cadillac working efficiently and prevents the need for many future repairs by keeping its systems and components in great shape. As your Cadillac dealership, we want to tell you some of the warning signs you need to visit us for a Cadillac service.

Failing Starter Motor

The starter motor’s job is to crank the engine, causing air and fuel to enter the intake manifold, mix, and be drawn into the cylinders to begin the combustion process. It’s powered by a strong electrical charge sent from the battery to the starter solenoid. In time, the starter can weaken or fail due to damage or worn parts, making starting difficult or even impossible.

The most common reason for a starter failure is a damaged solenoid. We can easily check this and install a new one so the starter will work again. A starter can also wear out, and in this case, we’ll test it and install a new one if necessary.

Old Oil

Your engine depends on oil for many reasons, the most essential of which is lubrication. Countless moving parts in your engine all depend on oil to allow them to move smoothly and effortlessly. The oil protects the various parts against friction damage with a friction-resistant coating, reduces rust and dirt buildup, and allows your engine to work as efficiently as possible.

Regular oil changes are vital for your engine, as even the highest quality oil gradually breaks down over time and loses its specialized properties. Older oil also thickens due to the absorption of dirt, rust particles, and other debris as it moves through the engine. This oil increases wear and tear on engine components and will eventually cause engine damage. We prevent these problems by draining and replacing the old oil and installing a new oil filter.

Clogged Air Filter

The cabin air filter traps dust, pollen, microbes, and other airborne contaminants before they enter your cabin. This ensures the air is as clean as possible. As time passes, the filter will become clogged with dirt, reducing airflow in the cabin. Dirt and other organisms, like bacteria and mold, can also spread through the cabin if the filter is blocked.

While you can’t check the filter condition, you’ll usually smell a musty, slightly stale smell inside the cabin. On average, this filter needs to be changed every 15,000 to 30,000 miles, depending on your model. Our technicians will check the filter and replace it if it’s blocked. Once the new filter is installed, you’ll notice an immediate improvement in air quality. When your Cadillac needs a service, contact the experts at Schepel Cadillac in Merrillville, IN.
